North Whatcom Fire and Rescue hosted an Open House Saturday, July 10, 2010 held at Station 61, 9408 Odell St. Blaine, WA from 11:30 a.m - 1:30 p.m. The community was invited to participate in the tradition of "pushing in' and "christening" ceremony for the District's newest pieces of apparatus before they were placed into service.
Chief Hollander started off the Open House with a video showing firefighters during their day to day actiivites as well as in real life emergencies.
Commissioner Salter discussed the need for the new apparatus and how they had been funded.
Ray Davidson, President of LOCAL 106NW talked about the history of revised tradition, which goes back to the days when pumpers were pulled by horses.
Everyone in attendance was given the opportunity to help with either washing down, drying or pushing eash new appartus into the station.
This was a great opportunity for the public to meet North Whatcom Fire and Rescue firefighters, tour the vehicles housed at Station 61 as well as the station itself. Fire safety information and youth "goody" bags were also provided.
Hot dogs and cake were served, sponsored by the International Association of Firefighters Local 106 NW.
